The focal point of the site are the community projects such as the Botany Bay Program, and Heavy Metal > Soft Head, which require up-to-the-minute progress reports. The content management system consists of customisable user profiles where staff members can be assigned access rights to specific areas of the site, allowing for maximum editorial flexibility whilst maintaining full control. To give the site an uncluttered feel, the design incorporates DHTML navigation, allowing maximum space for content and images. Navigation is repeated as text in the footer to aid accessibility and usability.

An Meá

This web site was developed for An Meá, a specialist consultancy in integrating environmental and social management into everyday work practices. Reading Room was selected to help with company branding and the company's growth strategy. Reading Room undertook a re-branding exercise to review An Meá's online positioning and developed a completely new logo and web site to take the company forward in accordance with their business strategy. The new site required updateable company information with improved design and navigation - making the site more informative and user-friendly. It was important for An Meá that the site highlighted the company's hands-on approach to work, and its international network of clients - visuals have been used well throughout the site to reflect this. The site is constructed so as to be able to add future phases of development such as training schedules with the ability to register and pay for training courses online. The web site gives users a choice of news items that can be read online or delivered directly to the user's mailbox. All design and navigation adhere to all browser standards including vision impair browsers.

Charles Sturt University

Charles Sturt University approached Reading Room to develop its media office website. One of the reasons they chose us was our technical experience in research and reporting online trends. Our implementation enabled the university to provide search on all content not only static HTML and common document formats but also dynamic pages from databases. The site provides real time indexing of documents. Every time a document is added, modified or removed, the search engine updates. It also provided the opportunity for integration with the University's security with permissible results based on user privileges. The University is now able to help staff, students and prospective students find the information they needed to do business quickly, easily and efficiently.

Australian National Audit Office

ANAO wanted a website that would meet both Australian Government and W3C Accessibility standards. Both these areas are where Reading Room has excelled for a long time. The website points users to the correct resources and information available efficiently and presents navigation, usability and information structure logically to offer real benefits to the user. Additional features include an extranet for managing projects and online seminar management. The extranet allows ANAO administrators to set up and manage new projects including uploading associated documents as well as adding new users to the extranet and assigning them to their respective projects. and Website users are able to register to attend different seminars available in different locations via the website. Registrations automatically populate the CMS and when a seminar is full the seminar automatically becomes unavailable for registration on the website. When CMS users approve a registration an email is generated and sent to the seminar participant confirming their participation. If an applicant is not eligible a different email is generated explaining the reason for ineligibility.

Go Matilda

Reading Room were given the task of developing an online resource for individuals and businesses wanting to move to Australia. The aim of the site was to generate a large amount of business, allowing Alan Collett to reduce costs of advertising and to reach a wider international audience. To fulfill this requirement, Reading Room built the site to be highly visible to search engines with prime meta data. Numerous links to other companies were also included and the custom built content management system allowed regular news letter to be sent automatically to registered users. To give Go Matilda an edge over competitors, an interactive feature was created. A Cost of Living calculator enabled users to compare the value of the dollar or foreign currencies in different states of Australia. Since its launch in July 2001, Go Matilda has had a tremendous amount of traffic generated by the sites visibility to search engines. To date there have been up to 80 thousand hits with increasing numbers each month.

HSC's brief for hornsby.nsw.gov.au was to develop a site with a strong design aspect that would enhance the Council's goals of increasing electronic communications with the entire community. The site's custom built content management system is packed with features required by the communication demands of Hornsby Shire Council and allows extensibility for future development. Special features of the site include online subscription to e-newsletters and events, personalised navigation, homepage headlines, printer-friendly pages and an "email to a friend" function of news articles. A major component of the site is a very powerful search engine that allows users to browse all relevant data dynamically created content pages, PDF and Word documents.

Dural Irrigation

Dural Irrigation run a very successful bricks and mortar store in Sydney's north west which has been supplemented by the development of a website carrying their full range of irrigation products for sale to both retail and trade customers. The site was built originally as an information site with a shopping cart on the side, but the online store proved so popular that in 2007 we repurposed the site to become a shopping cart with some information on the side. With the increase in cutomer numbers has also come an increase in the complexity of the costing matrix of the site - it deals with retail and wholesale prices as well as an extensive series of different levels of discount. Dural Irrigation's site never stands still. Reading Room is always implementing new ideas, for instance, this year we have rebranded the site and introduced special deals on freight to take advantage of TV ads that are being broadcast in country areas.
