Digital agency Reading Room has opened a new office in Brisbane, building on its Australian successes and proving there is strong demand for a new approach to digital communications.

Margaret Manning, Reading Room’s group CEO, said,

“Australia is currently an amazing growth market; it’s weathered the GFC extremely well, but that’s not to say there is room for complacency.
Reading Room’s very different approach is working here because we keep the client at the heart of the process, only work with talented creative people and aren’t interested in being the biggest agency around, but the best.

“Our commitment to Australia is demonstrated by the fact we’re investing a million dollars here. We’ve opened prestigious offices in James Street and Sarah Vick, who’s one of Europe’s most experienced digital specialists and a Group Board Director, will be moving from the UK to lead the Australian team and head up our Asia Pacific expansion.

“We have already employed key staff members locally and are in the process of hiring for 5 other positions.

“We chose Brisbane because of its energy and vitality and also the excellence of the education system – we hope to hire some very bright, young, creative people and we are already in contact with local universities with a view to working together on research projects and spotting talent for the future.”

In addition, Reading Room is keen to use its expanding presence in Australia to pitch and move into large accounts in the Asian markets.

Manning continued,

“We will be looking to Asia, rather than Europe or the US, as a source of major expansion over the next few years - Australia is critical to that market.
It’s an exciting time in the digital industry and we think before the year is out, traditional agencies will be looking to digital as leading the marketing and communications”.

Reading Room now employs over 35 staff in Australia in addition to the 100+ people who are based in the UK offices in London and Manchester.
