Man meets Mountains - Reading Room's Mark Kelly takes on the Alps in aid of charity

Reading Room Asia’s Senior Manager and experienced cyclist, Mark Kelly

Reading Room is gearing up for a charity extravaganza this summer in support of UK charity Help for Heroes and is hoping to raise over £2,500 in support of wounded servicemen and women.

On Saturday, 7 July, Reading Room Asia’s Senior Manager and experienced cyclist, Mark Kelly will be taking part in La Marmotte, an annual-one day cyclosportive event in France. Considered one of the toughest mass-timed cycling events in Europe, the route is 174km long and features more than 5180 metres of climbing, providing cyclists with the opportunity to ride the terrain of pros.

He won’t be going it alone – Mark has teamed up with President of Sitecore International, Soren Jepsen, who is one of Reading Room’s top technology partners, and together they’ll be taking on the challenge, completing the gruelling circuit which includes the Col du Glandon, the Col du Telegraphe, the Col du Galibier and Alpe d'Huez.

After six years as a professional cyclist, Mark joined Reading Room in early 2012 and is excited to be able to share his cycling knowledge and experience with the Sitecore team, having already begun an arduous training regime (a 150km ride on a Saturday is just your average weekend for our Mark!).

The fundraising will officially begin in June when Mark will be joining the Reading Room team in a number of activities including a bake sale and sponsored fancy dress, but the real fun starts once Mark puts on his cycle helmet and crosses the English Channel.

Mark Kelly says: “I’m really excited to be involved this year and to give Sitecore some tips on how to get through this tough challenge. It’s for a great cause and we’re hoping to raise some serious cash and have a bit of fun along the way too!”

Bryn Parry, CEO and Co-Founder of Help for Heroes says; “H4H is all about ‘doing your bit’ and the efforts of Reading Room and Mark Kelly, are brilliant example of people taking on a challenge, rallying support and accomplishing something extraordinary while they raise money for a wonderful cause. We have been able to use the money raised to provide practical and direct support to our heroes. We may not be able to prevent them from being hurt but together we can certainly do our bit to help them lead fulfilling lives. The money raised is needed, it is being used and it is hugely appreciated; sadly, we need a great deal more to be able to support our wounded for life. I would like to say thank you for what you are doing and every other fund raising event that it inspires.”
