Australia QLD Multicultural Community flood appeal fundraising

15th March 2011

The Australia Queensland Multicultural Community organised a Shoulder to Shoulder Flood Relief Fundraiser on Saturday 5th March at the QLD Police Service Academy, and Reading Room is very proud to have supported this event.

Reading Room worked together with the Singapore Business Council to create the multimedia slides and promoted the event through social media.

Queensland has been through a series of tough times during this summer, and the recent floods has affected up to 20 million people.

35 lives were lost during the floods and it is now up to everyone to help those affected to rebuild their lives.

This event saw many parliamentarians attending, including Brisbane Deputy Mayor Cr. Graham Quirk, Queensland Multicultural Minister Anatasia Palaszczuk MP, Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale, Queensland opposition leader John-Paul Langbroek MP, Speaker of the Parliament of Queensland John Mickel MP, Teresa Gambaro MP, Senator Mark Furner, Senator Clair Moore, Cr Angela Owen-Taylor, Cr Milton Dick, Cr Helen Abrahams, Councillor Mathew Bourke, City Councilman Julian Simmonds and many multi-cultural community leaders and representatives.

We would like to praise the effort of all volunteers who spent over eight weeks preparing for the event which included auctions, raffles, sponsorships and performances. The event raised more than 30,000 Australian dollars, with all proceeds going to the Premier’s flood appeal.
